After completing my Bachelors, Masters and Master of Philosophy degrees at the Department of History at University of Delhi, Centre for Historical Studies, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi), and Faculty of History, Cambridge University (UK), I completed a PhD at the Centre for the Study of Women and Gender, Department of Sociology, University of Warwick in 1997. I held lectureship and teaching fellowship at the Development Studies and Gender Institutes at the London School of Economics and Political Science for the academic years, 1998-2000. Since September 2000, I held a tenured-track lectureship at the Department of Sociology, University of Bristol. In August, 2008, I was promoted to a Senior Lectureship at University of Bristol. In April 2010, I joined the Department of Government at University of Uppsala, as a Senior Lecturer.
My research interests focus on four main areas: 1) gender, nationalism and colonialism; 2) the political economy of gendered violence; 3) qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and 4) ethnicity, social capital and social exclusion
