Undergraduade Studies

Political Science is one of the oldest university subjects at Uppsala University. The Uppsala Chair in Eloquence and Government was established in 1622 by Johan Skytte, and is said to be one of the oldest, still active, professorships in Political Science in the world today.

At the Department of Government every aspect of political life is studied - from the ideas of ancient thinkers to the decision-making of today. The problems of democracy are dealt with from the point of view of classical theory and contemporary debate. At the department the rules and practices of Swedish politics, the origins of power and the execution of power among the electorate, parties and the government, are studied. Other study areas are comparative studies of foreign countries, systems of government and politics as well as the interplay between states at the global political arena.
