Position:
The Department of Government has an international profile in education as well as research and cooperates with a vast number of universities all over the world. This has resulted in courses with international character and exchange programmes for both teachers, researchers and students between Uppsala and other universities. About 200 foreign students come to study at Uppsala University each year and about 60 Swedish students travel to the partner universities over the world.
Participating in a student exchange means that you during a certain time get to study at a foreign university without having to pay the tuition fee. By participating in the Deparment of Government’s exchange programme you have the possibility to have the courses you have studied abroad recognised, which means that the studies abroad can be a part of your degree. The exchange studies extends over one or two term, depending on what type of contract there is between the universities. In exceptional cases it is possible to study abroad more than once.
Which courses you can study depends on which courses the university offers and what courses you have studied. Therefore it is important to contact the university you want to study at before you start the exchange studies, to see what courses they offer. When you come home, it is possible to count all or some of the courses you have studied abroad towards your degree.
Anyone who has been accepted to courses within the Political Science field, either outside or in the Bachelor’s or Master's Programme in Political Science or Social Science and the Master’s Programme in Political Science and Development studies can apply for a place in the Department of Government’s exchange programme.
To apply for exchange studies it is required:
In addition to the exchange agreements between departments at Uppsala University and departments at foreign universities, Uppsala University has arrangements with universities all over the world for some general (not subject specific) places. These exchange agreements are coordinated by the International office at Uppsala University and can include other countries and other universities than the ones that the departments have arrangements with.
The main difference between the international office’s and the Department of Government’s student exchanges is that latter requires that you study some courses in Political Science and that you are given a place on the present course when you return to Uppsala University.
In the beginning of September during the autumn term and in the middle of March during the spring term the Department of Government arranges an information meeting for those who are interested in studying abroad the following term or later.
At these meetings you will get information about availiable places, practical information and hear about previous exchange students' experiences. The date and time is announced at the beginning of every term.
