Equal Opportunities

The Department of Government works to ensure that all staff and students are treated with respect and given the opportunity to work and pursue studies on an equal footing regardless of sex, gender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation, age or social background.

The department has a new Equal Opportunities Plan, which details goals and measures related to the different grounds for discrimination. This document also contains the department's Gender Equality Plan 2015-2017, where you can read more about the goals and measures concerning gender equality at the institution. The plan was updated as a result of the monitoring work made around the old plan. Related to the Equal Opportunities Plan, the department has already documented students' right to equal treatment (see Likabehandlingsplan).

If and when, students or employees are affected by sexual harassment there is a local action plan detailing how to handle this, see Handlingsplan mot sexuella trakasserier.

In addition there are a number of central guidelines provided by the University that guide and support the work concerning equal opportunities at the department. In the parental policy (Föräldrapolicy) you can read about the university’s position and policy enabling the combination of work or studies with parenthood. At Uppsala University, there are also guidelines for students' working conditions which deals with the rights of students, for instance in terms of physical and psychosocial conditions, curricula and schedules, student empowerment and teaching, see Your Rights, Guidelines for Working Conditions. Equal Opportunities among Students at the Department of Government 2016

Between the 27th of April and May 20th 2016 a survey was conducted among our students by the Equal Opportunities Committee at the Department of Government. The focus for the survey are issues that are raised in the Equal Opportunities Plan at the Department. The results of the survey are now available, and a summary in English is available here(the full version of the report is only available in Swedish unfortunately).
