Sofia Näsström is Associate Professor at the Department of Government at Uppsala University. She works within the field of political theory, with particular focus on issues connected to representation, political boundaries, social contract theory and popular sovereignty. In recent years, her research has come to specialize on how to think legitimacy and democracy under global political conditions, and she is currently working on a monograph in relation to this, entitled The Legitimacy of People-Making.
Näsström has held visiting positions at the European University Institute, Columbia University and The New School of Social Research. She is participant in the research program Transdemos, which examines the role of transnational actors in the democratization of international institutions, and is co-founder and associate editor of the journal Ethics & Global Politics.
