Mona Lena Krook new visiting professor - Inauguration on 8 February

Mona Lena Krook, Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University, will be visiting the Department of Government during 2023 as Kerstin Hesselgren visiting professor.
Inauguration of Professor

Mona Lena Krook will be inaugurated on 8 februari at 10:00–12:00 in Ostrom Hall, Department of Government. She will deliver a 45 minutes long lecture named "Rethinking Strategies to Promote Women in Politics", followed by time for questions.
Participating in the inauguration are among others Li Bennich-Björkman, Head of Department of Government and Johan Skytte Professor of Eloquence and Political Science, Annika Waern, Pro-Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the representatives of the Swedish Research Council, Stefan Svallfors and Anders Sundin.
The inauguration will take place in Ostromsalen, Östra Ågatan 19
The event will be open for the public. No registration required.
About Mona Lena Krook
Mona Lena Krook is Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Women & Politics Ph.D. Program at Rutgers University. Her first book, Quotas for Women in Politics: Gender and Candidate Selection Reform Worldwide (Oxford University Press, 2009), won the American Political Science Association’s Victoria Schuck Award in 2010 for the best book on women and politics. She has also written articles appearing in the British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, Comparative Politics, the European Journal of International Relations, the European Journal of Political Research, the Journal of Politics, Perspectives on Politics, Political Research Quarterly, and Politics & Gender, among others. Her most recent book, Violence against Women in Politics (Oxford University Press, 2020), won the 2022 Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order.

About Kerstin Hesselgrens gästprofessur

The Kerstin Hesselgren visiting professorship should be awarded to a foreign prominent internationally recognized female researcher in the areas of social sciences, humanities, theology or science of law.
The professorship was founded in 1987 as a parliement initiative and is awarded yearly by the Swedish Research Council.
Kerstin Hesselgren (14 January 1872–19 August 1962) was a Swedish politician. Hesselgren became the first woman to be elected into the Upper House of the Swedish Parliament after female suffrage was introduced in 1921. She was elected by suggestion of the Liberals with support from the Social democrats.
