UPSA Bachelor Thesis Award 2022 to André Casselbrant

2022-10-04

We are very happy to announce that the Uppsala Political Science Association Bachelor Thesis Award 2022  will be awarded to André Casselbrant, for his thesis entitled:
"Free churches in Sweden and right-wing populism: Immune or susceptible? An analysis of ideas comparing editorials in evangelical press"

The motivation formulated by the prize committee of the Uppsala Political Science Association reads as follows:

Casselbrant’s thesis investigates the relationship between the Swedish evangelical movement and far-right populism between 2010 and 2021. It does so with exceptional methodological rigor and clarity, and it presents a powerful, well-structured and convincing argument. In addition to its scientific merits, the thesis also contributes to the public debate on right wing populism in the 21st century, a debate in dire need of scientific input. All in all, the committee is much impressed with Casselbrant’s work and hope it will become an inspiration to future students of political science.

The prize was handed out by the 2022 Skytte prize laureate Robert E. Goodin in connection with his prize lecture on 30 September.
